Xbox 360 Exclusive Coming to PC After Almost 20 Years - Fans Get Lost Odyssey
Lost Odyssey is launching on Windows after almost 20 years, thanks to a fan recompilation project that already allows players to explore early locations, battle, save, and watch cutscenes.
Lost Odyssey remained tied to Microsoft consoles for almost two decades. Now, the situation is changing thanks to a project that ports the original code from PowerPC architecture to C++ instead of classic Xbox 360 emulation.
Version 0.1 currently only allows playing through the initial part of the game, but it already supports controller input, saves, basic graphics settings, resolution changes, FXAA, and windowed mode. In the future, the developers aim to add high-resolution rendering, widescreen support, DLSS, FSR, HDR, improved shadows, SSAO, Vulkan, potential Steam Deck support, and frame generation.
A full release is still a long way off: the project requires testing later parts of the game, disc changes, and improved stability. Lost Odyssey originally launched in 2007 on four DVDs, and the project requires game files from the user's own copy.
An official PC version of the RPG from Mistwalker and Feelplus never existed. The project was led by Hironobu Sakaguchi, with music composed by Nobuo Uematsu, and character design by Takehiko Inoue. The game tells the story of the immortal Kaim Argonar, who has lived for about a thousand years and lost a significant portion of his memories.
