Before Banjo-Kazooie, there was another game: a forgotten Rare project has surfaced online

The ROM of the canceled Project Dream, an RPG by Rare for SNES, whose materials were later partially used to create Banjo-Kazooie, has leaked online.

For years, rumors circulated that the release of Banjo-Kazooie was preceded by an unreleased game called Project Dream. Now, its files have appeared online.

Project Dream was the working title for a project intended to be released under the name Dream: Land of Giants. The release never happened, and a significant portion of Rare's developments were later used in the creation of Banjo-Kazooie.

The canceled SNES RPG seems to have been preserved on the hard drive of one of Rare's employees. An anonymous user published the ROM of Project Dream, allowing the unfinished game to now be played via an emulator.

The leaker urged other owners of unreleased games to do the same. They also suggested boycotting Sony and Microsoft, switching to Linux, and buying physical versions of games.
