GTA VI Online is a "strictly guarded secret" - developers had to be protected from drones and hacker attacks

During the Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay presentation and game promotion, Rockstar Games has not yet said anything about the hypothetical "GTA VI Online." As it turns out, the studio calls information about the new multiplayer one of its most carefully guarded secrets.

The information was discovered in a statement filed with the Employment Tribunal in Edinburgh, where several dozen former Rockstar employees are disputing their dismissal. Blogger ben (videotech), well-known in the GTA and RDR community, studied the materials and drew attention to the security measures taken by Rockstar Games:

Rockstar describes its internal security culture as comparable to that of Apple. Visitors are required to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs), photography is strictly prohibited, contractors are escorted by security, and personal laptops, phones, and tablets cannot connect to Rockstar systems. In addition, the company hired a five-person investigative team to track data leaks and ensure security in connection with the 2022 incidents.

According to the documents, employees mentioned features of a confidential project on a private Discord* server, including an "online format for 32 players." However, the submitted materials do not confirm that the hypothetical GTA VI Online will indeed support 32 players — they only state that support for such a format was discussed and at that time the information was strictly confidential.

It also became known that Rockstar had to install protection on the building — some people used drones to look into the windows of the developers' offices and film.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19 this year on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Rockstar Games and Take-Two have not officially announced anything about the PC version's release window.
