After 15 years, Spider-Man: Edge of Time is released on PC with Russian language support - thanks to a modder

The unofficial native port of Spider-Man: Edge of Time (2011) for PC was recently released to the public. Previously, players could enjoy the superhero action on consoles.

The project's author, known as GenryTheFox, explained his motivation simply — he wanted a PC version of Spider-Man: Edge of Time, and it was never released:

The game was released on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, Nintendo DS, and Nintendo 3DS. But a Windows version never appeared. This annoyed me for years, so I finally decided to do something about it.

GenryTheFox admitted that he actively used AI tools during the work, especially OpenAI Codex and Astra. At the same time, he paid attention to verifying the changes made:

I'm not going to deceive anyone and pretend I didn't use them. They helped with code, debugging, the installer, the launcher, log analysis, and a huge number of experiments. Nevertheless, the results of AI work were never considered correct by default. “Fix successfully implemented” means absolutely nothing if a black screen appears when the game starts. Every change had to pass verification with a clean build, file verification, and in-game testing.

GenryTheFox published the source code of the "Spider-Man-Edge-of-Time-PC-Edition" project on GitHub. The package does not include game files, which are copyrighted, so players need to provide a copy of the Xbox 360 version themselves.

The developer noted that the project supports the Russian language:

The Russian translation is unofficial. The PC version includes localization integration and significant refinement of Cyrillic fonts, taking into account the original visual style of the game.
