Will Marvel's Wolverine deprive Sony of The Game Awards' top nomination? The game's rating is too low

News 0

Reviews for Marvel's Wolverine were released last week, but the scores were moderate: reviewers were tired of repetitive combat and were divided on the plot. Polygon called the game "the biggest disappointment of the PS5 era."

Throughout the history of The Game Awards, only in 2014 did Sony not receive a "Game of the Year" nomination. Over the next 11 years, the publisher's games were nominated 14 times, and won three times – God of War in 2018, The Last of Us Part 2 in 2020, and Astro Bot in 2024.

At the same time, Sony is increasingly facing competition from large-scale role-playing games like Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. In 2026, the publisher's last hope remains Saros from Housemarque with a Metacritic score of 87, but Returnal from the same studio did not receive a nomination in 2021. If Wolverine indeed does not make the list of contenders, Sony will be without a chance to win "Game of the Year" for the first time since 2014.
