Will World of Warcraft come to consoles? Blizzard gave players a new reason to think so

World of Warcraft officially received controller support after 24 years, fueling rumors of a full-fledged console version of the MMORPG.

Blizzard is preparing World of Warcraft: Forever – a kind of new beginning for the game with progression from level one, new quests, locations, dungeons, and raids. Players believe that controller support came at the right time: Final Fantasy XIV and The Elder Scrolls Online have already proven that large-scale MMORPGs work well with a gamepad.

Of particular interest is the upcoming Xbox, known as Project Helix. The device combines the capabilities of a console and a PC, using a modified Windows 11 and an interface with controller control. Microsoft is already integrating libraries from various stores on PC, including Battle.net, so World of Warcraft looks like a natural candidate.

However, Blizzard has not yet announced the game for PS5 or Xbox Series X|S, and controller support alone does not confirm a port. But after 24 years, World of Warcraft is indeed closer to consoles than ever before.
