Memory Market Crisis Has Not Affected Valve's Plans for Steam Deck 2

News 0

It is already known that Valve is working on Steam Deck 2. The developers themselves talked about this in an interview with the media this summer.

However, the memory market crisis continues: the cost of video cards and game consoles continues to rise, and Steam Deck prices have also increased. Therefore, there might have been logical concerns that Valve had already decided to revise its plans for the new device.

This month, Valve revealed the prices for Steam Frame and its line of accessories, and interviews with developers began to be published online. IGN managed to talk to specialists, and during the conversation, they touched upon not only the company's new VR headset but also Steam Deck 2.

To the direct question, "Has the current component shortage affected Valve's approach to developing Steam Deck 2?" developer Pierre-Loup Griffais replied that it had "not really."

According to Griffais, the company still "starts from the user experience and what [Valve] wants to offer players."

Griffais reminded that the developers have already stated their position – for the future of Steam Deck, it is important to "provide a truly noticeable performance increase," and in this regard, the company's approach has not changed:

It all comes down to assessing the current conditions and understanding how and when we can release such a device. But from the perspective of the user experience and the product we are trying to create, our goals remain largely the same.
