Total War: Warhammer 40,000 Creator Reveals How the Board Game Influences the Strategy Game
Games Workshop's tabletop games are a benchmark, but the rules won't be literally reproduced.
Creative Assembly is currently working on a new galactic strategy game, Total War: Warhammer 40,000, and is gradually revealing various details. The developers collaborated with Games Workshop to ensure the project's "authenticity."
In a recent interview with TechRadar Gaming, developer Dave Petry, responsible for creating the combat system, spoke about the team's approach to working on Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

It's very important for us to authentically convey the feeling of combat. When it comes to historical projects, obviously, the battle takes place on Earth, and such wars mainly use familiar earthly weapons. In the case of fantasy, magic, mages, and all that appear, and when it comes to science fantasy and the Warhammer 40,000 universe – the main source of inspiration, of course, is the tabletop game.
However, Dave Petry explains, the creators of Total War: Warhammer 40,000 will not be directly porting the tabletop game rules:
We are not literally porting the tabletop game to the screen. Our goal is to authentically convey the spirit of the lore and the nature of the battles taking place.
