Recently, players remembered Ninja Gaiden II again. Currently, an updated version, Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, is available on PC, as well as Ninja Gaiden Σ2 as part of the Ninja Gaiden: Master Collection, and now the original 2008 version can be fully played.
Tech enthusiast under the nickname TheSaltTrader announced that he was able to recompile the original Ninja Gaiden II from 2008 for the Xbox 360 console into a “native executable (exe) file for Windows.” He emphasizes that the slasher will run natively on PC, it is not an emulator:
The game code, written in PowerPC, is pre-compiled into native x86-64 code, so there is no interpreter or JIT “warm-up” period: the game launches as a Windows application at 60 FPS and with PC-specific settings.
The unofficial PC port of Ninja Gaiden II (2008) is compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 11 operating systems, and supports 30 – 144 FPS.
TheSaltTrader published the source code of the project “Ninja-s-Dawn---A-Ninja-Gaiden-2-Recompilation-Project” in open access in a GitHub repository. The archive does not include any game data/assets (this would violate copyright), so players need to provide their own copy of the game.
Earlier, another tech enthusiast ported the game about a famous superhero, Spider-Man: Edge of Time (2011), to PC.
