Did the media distort the words of WARDOGS head about crunch? Developer's answer
WARDOGS became a Steam bestseller and has already sold over 2 million copies. After an interview with Bulkhead head Joe Brammer, a scandal erupted around the game due to publications he called manipulative.
In an interview with The Game Business, Brammer stated that he expects employees to work hard and allows for crunch, which he warned candidates about during the hiring process.
After this, critical articles about the studio appeared. Brammer claims that PC Gamer attributed words to him that were not in the interview. In response, he wrote on X:
They made it up.
The head of Bulkhead listed the facts: 80% of the studio's shares belong to half of the employees, half of the production time the team worked four days a week, and employees rested all of December.
We made a game that you like, and our employees will be rewarded accordingly.
He also urged people to watch the full interview and not take his words out of context. Previously, the studio had problems finding a publisher: Tencent refused the contract, after which about 20% of the employees were laid off. As a result, Team17 took over the publishing of WARDOGS.
