Currently, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remaster is in development, as well as the Songs of the Past expansion (or “Ballads of the Past” in Russian localization), which CD Projekt RED is making in collaboration with specialists from Fool’s Theory.
The founder of Fool’s Theory studio is Jakub Rokosz, who previously worked as a quest designer at CDPR. In a recent interview, CD Projekt RED Executive Producer Jakub Kutrzuba mentioned this long-standing connection between the specialists, which helped in the process of transferring the project.
He explained it using an analogy of entrusting a child:
As a parent, I would also think twice before leaving my little one with someone. But I know that there [at Fool’s Theory] are people who will take care of him in the best possible way. I think this is exactly the case here.
Jakub Kutrzuba noted that CD Projekt RED understands the people who work at Fool’s Theory very well, as many of the studio's employees come from CDPR — they don't need to agree on basic working principles, as everyone is “on the same page”:
The fact that we have a very long history [of professional relationships] with many people from Fool’s Theory… helped a lot, because we didn't have to delve into their way of thinking and philosophy, making sure that we are working on the same level and share the same aspirations.
Kutrzuba also spoke about CD Projekt RED's approach to choosing partners — development views must coincide:
There are studios that, like us, care about players, care about what they do. For them, it's not just business. They want to create art. We also want to create art, and we believe that games are art, but not everyone thinks that way.
The release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remaster is scheduled for September 29 of this year. The story expansion Songs of the Past is planned for release in 2027.
