Played PlayStation 5 games on Xbox Series X using an emulator
The developer offered a new way to experience the PlayStation library.
This summer, Sony announced the discontinuation of PlayStation game discs. This gave new impetus to developers of various emulators and attracted significant attention to such projects.
Recently, developer Devran Cosmo Uenal showed that, under certain conditions, it is possible to play a PlayStation 5 game on an Xbox Series X. He joked: "Xbox backward compatibility is getting out of hand... because now we're adding PlayStation 5 to the list."
He explained that what is shown in the video below is his project "PS5X". Devran positions it as an experimental port of the KytyPS5 emulator for Xbox, which allows running PlayStation 5 games on Microsoft's console in developer mode.
Devran was able to play GEX Trilogy, Hellboy Web of Wyrd, MARVEL Cosmic Invasion, and also classics — Quake II:
Devran noted that since Vulkan is not supported, everything has to be translated to DirectX:
I wanted to see how far we could go... well, the project is still in its infancy, and compatibility is limited, but some games are already playable — sound works and gamepad support is available.
The developer admitted that he used artificial intelligence when working on his project.
