GTA VI will no longer be able to repeat the record of Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 in awards

One of the key ceremonies will take place even before the release of GTA VI.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026 only on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles. From the perspective of receiving awards, this is not the best time for launch.

The media noted that GTA VI will no longer be able to repeat the records of previous years set by the sensational Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

The problem lies in the schedule of the 44th Golden Joystick Award ceremony. This year it will be held on November 11, which is eight days before the release of the new installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. Because of this, GTA VI will not be able to compete for the title of “Game of the Year 2026”.

Baldur’s Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 took home “Game of the Year” not only at the Golden Joystick Award, but also at the DICE Awards, GDC Awards, Bafta Games Awards, The Game Awards.

Grand Theft Auto VI will have the opportunity to compete for the “Game of the Year” award at the Golden Joystick Award 2027. And, if it can still win five major gaming awards, then it can be considered a “delayed” victory. But it will no longer be able to receive these five awards in one year.
