This summer, Sony announced that a decision had been made to abandon PlayStation game discs. Soon after, the company began to face active criticism online. Some users even declared an indefinite boycott — allegedly, they would not use Sony consoles and services until the company reversed its decision. However, according to analyst data, this “boycott” had no significant impact on PlayStation engagement metrics.
Now, a post by a user under the nickname denemereiz123 has gone viral in the gaming community. He introduced himself as an Amazon employee working in a warehouse.
According to him, management told him to destroy physical copies of PlayStation games, as well as music discs — no one is buying the products. He published a photo of a box with discs:

I don't know if these are all the discs in the warehouse, but we need to send 450 different discs for destruction. And about 80% of them are music album discs. They didn't explain why they are being sent for destruction, but it was very sad for me to watch. I don't have a PlayStation, but perhaps there might be interesting posters or something similar in the disc boxes.
Some might ask a logical question like, “if no one needs the product, why not give it away to employees?” However, this could raise questions from the tax authorities, and continued storage of unclaimed goods creates losses.
One of the discussion participants explained that it's also impossible to hold a sale and sell the discs for, say, 10 dollars: “This would damage the brand's image, so they will simply get rid of them.”
