Resident Evil Requiem Becomes Japan's Top Hit: Game Sales Up 13% - Analysts

News 0

Resident Evil Requiem became the main growth driver for the PlayStation and PC game market in Japan, where sales of such projects in the first half of 2026 increased by 13% to 21 million copies.

According to Sensor Tower analysts, Capcom was the main beneficiary of the growth. Resident Evil Requiem showed the best launch in the series' history on Steam: in the first 30 days, about 2.6 million players bought the PC version, and the average playtime was 25 hours – a maximum for the series.

The success helped Resident Evil Requiem surpass the 8 million copies sold mark in July and improved Capcom's financial results along with Pragmata, which was released simultaneously.

Meanwhile, Japan's mobile market faced a decline. In-game purchase revenues decreased by more than 5% year-on-year to 1.56 trillion yen (about $10 billion), and the number of downloads decreased by roughly the same extent.

The share of Japanese developers in mobile downloads also decreased to 28%. eFootball from Konami remained the revenue leader, although foreign projects like Whiteout Survival continue to strengthen their positions.
