Modders from the Nevendaar Labs team recently presented a working build of a large-scale remake of the cult turn-based strategy game Disciples II: Dark Prophecy (the original game was released in 2002). The project is known under the working title “OpenD2” and is being developed from scratch on a new engine.
Enthusiasts are refining the game's combat system, with changes making the gameplay more modern. A dynamic initiative scale with turn order has been added to the battle screen, reminiscent of the subsequent Disciples or Heroes of Might and Magic. Players will have access to a preliminary auto-battle calculation with the ability to replay the battle manually, display hit chances, and damage prediction.
The use of a new engine allowed them to move away from the limitations of the original Disciples II. Modders will be able to create scenarios of various formats, including those exceeding the “48 x 48” cell limit. In essence, now “literally anything is possible”.
In September, players were also reminded of another project. In September, Fessoid talked about the release of a major update to the Russian version of the Polish modification for Disciples II “Mod Dzieje Nevendaar”.
The Dzieje Nevendaar project includes 69 maps, as well as four sagas:
- Alliance Crusade
- Song of the Starless Night
- Relics of Mortis
- Saga based on the events of Dis1
