Recently, solo developer Bogdan Vasilenko published a new video diary dedicated to the development of a large-scale project. He is working on a remake of the first Far Cry game based on the modern Unreal Engine 5.
The video shows a Desert Eagle pistol model, an M16 automatic rifle, a sniper rifle, a combat knife, grenades, and other weapons. The developer noted that each weapon now has its own unique animations: “drawing, shooting, reloading, position when obstructed), made in the style of the original game.” New sound effects were also created.
In addition, the enthusiast presented an updated three-dimensional model of the main character Jack Carver with his characteristic Hawaiian shirt. Bogdan explained that he integrated new animations for the protagonist into the project: “in-place turn animations for all state modes (standing, sitting, and prone), damage animations (which play depending on the hit side).”
The BloodAddon system was implemented, responsible for the appearance of blood splashes on surfaces, the appearance of blood puddles when a character/bot dies, as well as blood diffusion in water if a character/bot died there or fell.
The developer also created a Kill Feed system, which is used to display information to each player on the screen in the spirit of “who killed whom, with what weapon, headshot or not.” This system displays information only in multiplayer game modes.
According to Bogdan, he does not work on the Far Cry remake every day, but in his free time: work on the project started a year and three months ago.
