Recently, the mystical shooter The Darkness, released in 2007 on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, finally made its way to PC. A full-fledged native version for personal computers appeared — thanks to an enthusiast.
The developer under the nickname portingpete said that this is a port of The Darkness (Xbox 360) version for the Windows 64-bit operating system, everything works without emulation: "The executable file for the 360 is pre-translated to C++ and integrated with DarkRecomp.exe with the D3D11 renderer — no runtime emulation is performed."
This native PC version of The Darkness offers players original gameplay, gamepad and mouse support, video settings (field of view, resolution, gamma, frame rate limit, vertical sync, etc.) are available, and sound and save system also work.
portingpete published the source code of the "The-Darkness-Recomp" project in open access on GitHub. The presented archive does not contain game files that are protected by copyright, i.e., players will need to provide an image of The Darkness version for Xbox 360.
