Recently, players remembered the classic open-world action game Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction. The original game was released more than 20 years ago on consoles, and now a full-fledged native PC port has appeared.
Modder SixGenProkat from the “menace.pro” community published a trailer for the “Mercenaries Recompiled” project and announced that the “era of messing with emulators” for playing Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction on PC has come to an end:
The Mercenaries Recompiled project allows you to run Playground of Destruction natively on PC under the Windows operating system or on Linux via Proton, without using emulation.
SixGenProkat noted that the “Mercenaries Recompiled” build includes a mod menu, as well as “several graphical improvements, fixes for various bugs in the original game, and many other features.” Enthusiasts are also implementing support for modifications, such as PoD+, and in the settings, players will be able to select resolution, activate improvements from the PlayStation 2 version, and more.
The project itself does not include copyrighted materials, which will help avoid potential legal issues. Players will need to provide their own legal copy of the Xbox version.
