Bloober Team revealed details of Onyx: The Dark Grip, a dark 2.5D adventure game, which will be released exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 and will utilize unusual console capabilities.
Broken Mirror Games, a subsidiary studio of Bloober Team, has been developing the project for three years. Players simultaneously control an ordinary human, Holden, exploring an isolated town in eternal winter, and a mysterious divine being that controls the hero.
In Onyx, you will explore locations, solve puzzles, and fight. The Switch 2 will become part of the gameplay: players will touch the screen with two thumbs, blow and whistle into the microphone, shake off moths with console movements, throw fireballs with swipes, and use the gyroscope to destroy enemies.
As a deity, you can read NPC thoughts, implant your own thoughts into them, and communicate with the dead. The setting is inspired by the Polish city of Beran, and among the sources of inspiration, the creators name Eternal Darkness, Silent Hill, Inside, and Resident Evil 2. The music will be written by Jan Borysewicz, and recordings will take place with the participation of the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.
