An experimental ProsperoEden emulator for Nintendo Switch games has appeared on modified PS5s: Cuphead runs at a stable 60 FPS, Metroid Dread – at approximately 40 FPS, and some other projects are already launching.
ProsperoEden is a port of the open-source Eden emulator, built on the Yuzu code. Developers have adapted it to the PS5 architecture, allowing games to run directly on the console. The project is currently in an early alpha testing stage, primarily on firmware 6.02.
In addition to Cuphead and Metroid Dread, Super Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Hollow Knight, and Pokémon Legends Z-A are already being tested. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe still requires optimization for a stable 60 FPS.
The alpha version uses only OpenGL, and developers plan to add Vulkan support later. The emulator supports DualSense, saves, and a performance overlay, and for individual games, portable and docked modes can be selected.
The authors emphasize that the compatibility list only shows tested game fragments and does not guarantee full functionality. Also, the project may face legal claims from Nintendo.
