AI will help press buttons and move sticks: Sony invents new accessibility feature
Sony has patented an AI system that can complete unfinished controller movements, helping players with physical limitations perform intended actions in games.
The system will analyze the duration and force of presses, stick movements, and repetitive behavior patterns, as well as take into account the in-game situation, to determine the user's intention and generate the missing part of the control signal.
The solution is intended to be personalized for a specific player, controller, and game, and it can learn based on previous sessions. Processing can be performed directly on the device or in the cloud.
Sony has also provided for multiplayer games: AI assistance can be automatically disabled or manually deactivated. An indicator is also provided to inform other players about the system's activity, to distinguish the accessibility feature from a potential advantage.
The patent was published on September 17, 2026. It is not yet known whether the technology will appear in Sony products. The document does not confirm a specific console or controller, release date, or even the use of the feature on PlayStation.
