Microsoft continues to develop a feature that allows some games to be transferred from physical media to a digital library. Now, the player does not need to go through an additional procedure after launching a supported game from a disc.
When first obtaining a digital license, Xbox will show a detailed explanation of how the system works, and for subsequent games, it will limit itself to a regular notification, making the process faster and more convenient.
The main principle has not changed: after activation, the digital license remains linked to the physical copy of the game. Therefore, it is not possible to sell or give away a used disc – Microsoft recommends keeping it, as it is necessary to retain the game in the digital library.
The feature works with select physical versions of games for Xbox One and Xbox Series X. Availability depends on technical, licensing, publishing, and production conditions. Discs for Xbox 360 and the original Xbox are not yet supported.
