Bethesda Shut Down Fan Game Fallout: New York, Which Launched in a Browser

The new game was created in a few days using modern technologies.

Bethesda Game Studios is known for its rather loyal attitude towards fan creations; for example, enthusiasts are currently developing a full-fledged remake of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion based on the Skyrim engine, and there is also a mod-conversion Fallout: London. However, there are still exceptions.

Recently, players noticed that the company's lawyers quickly shut down a project that went viral on social media. We are talking about the so-called Fallout: New York — this game was entirely created using artificial intelligence capabilities.

Developer Chris First said he used Claude Opus 5.5 to create a browser-based 3D Fallout game set in New York, with “quests, dialogue trees, VATS system, working Pip-Boy” and other key elements of the franchise's games.

According to the creator, the “development” of Fallout: New York took about 5 days, after he instructed Claude and a studio of AI agents to “recreate Fallout, set in New York.” The graphics are very different from the official Fallout games, but otherwise, it indeed had many recognizable elements.

Fallout: New York was shut down for copyright infringement, although lawyers usually allow free fan projects to exist. Players speculate that Bethesda Game Studios might be developing a Fallout game set in New York themselves right now.
