PlayStation Creator Points Out Problem in Modern Gaming Industry

News 1

Speaking at a panel at the University of Electro-Communications in Tokyo, Kutaragi noted the enormous technological progress in games: modern graphics and project scales significantly surpass what the creators of the first PlayStation could have dreamed of. In his opinion, technological development has not sufficiently influenced new ideas and ways of creating games.

Kutaragi believes that many modern projects still use creative processes that differ little from those used at the beginning of the PlayStation era. He recalled that the team of the first console sought to follow existing technologies and create solutions capable of setting new directions.

Kutaragi particularly addressed students who might enter the gaming industry. According to him, curiosity and a constant desire for discovery are important: when a person stops experimenting and decides that “it’s probably enough,” the space for real change ends.
