Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka stated that the team currently prefers to create new Sonic games and surprise fans. The team does not want to spend limited resources on remakes and remasters.
Iizuka noted that fans regularly ask for old games to return, such as Sonic Unleashed, although the team's resources are limited.
Instead of using these limited resources to create remakes and remasters, we would rather provide fans with new games and present new surprises.
According to Iizuka, a remake today requires approximately as many resources as developing a new game: graphics have to be recreated, and old gameplay cannot simply be transferred without changes due to modern standards.
“Exactly (laughs),” Iizuka replied to the remark that even the transition from 4:3 to 16:9 format is more difficult than it seems.
At the same time, the head of Sonic Team knows that some old games cannot be properly launched now.
I would like to ask you to wait a little longer.
