Recently, players once again remembered Silent Hills P.T. The horror demo by Hideo Kojima was presented many years ago: it was supposed to be a teaser for a new installment of the franchise, but in the end, Silent Hills was canceled. Now, an enthusiast under the nickname LoreanXavier is porting the demo from console to PC.
He is developing a native Windows port. LoreanXavier emphasizes that this is not an emulator, not a wrapper (middleware program), and not a remake. He is recreating the game logic and rendering in C++ and Vulkan, reverse-engineering the PlayStation 4 executable (exe) file.
The project will run on original game data. The player will need to provide their copy of the game (image) — this way, the port cannot be shut down for copyright infringement, as the archive does not include game assets. LoreanXavier aims for “1 to 1” accuracy.
The developer has published gameplay footage:
LoreanXavier explained how he verified the “1 to 1 correspondence.” He noted that during the work, a bug with the display of some game assets was fixed:
The original runs in an emulator with scripted gamepad input and recorded camera positions, while the port renders the same moments from the same positions so that each frame can be compared. In the process, I found and fixed a texture streaming bug in shadPS4, which caused walls and floors in P.T. to display with black stripes in the emulator.
LoreanXavier has not yet announced a specific release date. This version supports 60+ FPS and AMD FSR 3.1 technology.
