GTA III and Resident Evil 4 launched on a Nokia N95 phone released in 2007
Old hardware is capable of rendering a cutscene.
Recently, an experiment by developer Dante D. Leoncini went viral online. He decided to run Resident Evil 4 (the classic 2005 version) on a Nokia N95 phone — next year, this model will be 20 years old. It runs on Symbian.
The video shown by Dante does not present a full port of Resident Evil 4 for Symbian. The developer positions this as the first test launch of a cutscene from the game on the phone.
According to him, the “bottleneck” is not rendering, but character animation processing: “the N95 processor has to process thousands of vertices with animations of eyes, mouth, hair, clothes, fingers, etc. in milliseconds.”
You can watch the Resident Evil 4 cutscene test on Nokia N95 on Dante D. Leoncini's social media account at the following link. The developer also runs a YouTube channel of the same name, “Dante D. Leoncini,” where he publishes other materials.
For example, he conducted experiments with Grand Theft Auto III on Nokia N95:
He describes this entry as “testing the GTA3 to Whisk3d converter.” The converter takes original game assets and then uses Python to convert them into a W3D format file, ready for use in Whisk3d (which is a 2D/3D graphics creation tool that runs on Nokia N95).
