Western Genshin Impact Fans Appreciate Russian Collaboration with Stanislavsky Music Theatre Soloist
Now they want to hear this version of Vodyanitsa's song in Genshin Impact.
Genshin Impact developers have already held several local events and promotions in Russia, and recently miHoYo (HoYoverse) presented a new video, “Behind the Scenes of the Cold Night Aria,” dedicated to the collaboration with the leading soloist of the Stanislavsky Music Theatre.
Opera singer (soprano) Daria Terekhova spoke about her work on the song and shared her opinion on the character Vodyanitsa:
Snezhnaya, it is a land of eternal winter, incredible landscapes, on the one hand, of course, inspiring, and on the other hand, creating a certain feeling of loneliness, sadness. The strongest impression on me was made by Vodyanitsa's story. The scenes of her song, filled with a huge feeling of love and sorrow. Vodyanitsa combines a whole complex of qualities: she is beautiful and bright, and she has the fragility and vulnerability of the Maiden of Waters, but also an inner, feminine strength. She is not just an opera singer, she is a true opera actress — she knows how to turn her emotions into stage energy.
When Daria Terekhova was learning Vodyanitsa's song, it reminded her of the Swan Princess — a character from the Russian opera “The Tale of Tsar Saltan”:
That part of the song where the words are very consonant with the romance to the verses of Alexander Sergeevich Pushkin: “I loved you,” symbolizes that very longing for what was lost, but the second half of the song, it very much reminded me of the fast part of Reinhold Gliere's concerto for coloratura soprano with orchestra. The contrast of the two parts of this song is very easily explained from an actor's point of view: in opera performances, it is also sad, and we often play with a smile. And in fact, the more pain the hero or heroine has, the more they should convey this pain to the audience with a bright sadness, and sometimes even joy — only then will it evoke empathy and sympathy.
The performance of this song differs from Daria Terekhova's opera parts in its combination of different musical styles. However, just like in classical operas, she performed this song “with her operatic voice — without reducing its volume, without changing its natural timbre.”
The publication by Genshin Impact developers attracted the attention of players from different regions. Community members praised miHoYo for introducing people to culture through music, and also called for an update to the in-game version of the soundtrack — they want to hear this performance in the game itself.
Finally, a version with correct pronunciation has been presented. The original version had a strong accent, which made the text incomprehensible without subtitles even to native speakers.
