RAM will not get cheaper in the coming years: Micron warns of shortage until 2028

Micron has almost completely sold out the memory it will produce in 2027, at prices significantly higher than current ones.

Micron CEO Sanjay Mehrotra warned that the global RAM shortage will persist until at least 2028, as demand continues to outstrip manufacturers' capabilities.

According to Mehrotra, Micron has already virtually sold all the memory that will be produced in 2027, at prices significantly higher than 2026 levels. At the same time, demand will exceed supply throughout 2027 and 2028, and the company does not yet see a point when the market will reach balance.

In 2028, Micron will open new factories, but this does not guarantee a rapid improvement in memory availability or price reduction. At the same time, demand for HBM is growing significantly faster than for conventional DRAM, so the company is trying to increase HBM revenues.

Amid high demand and rising prices, Micron's revenue over the past three months increased by 83%, and the DRAM segment by 90%. SSD sales approached $10 billion.
