The PS5 Pro sold out in Japan, despite Sony's lottery, which was supposed to protect consoles from bots and scalpers.
Due to high demand, regular pre-orders were not enough, so Sony's Japanese division launched a lottery for the right to purchase a PS5 Pro from its own online store. Participation itself did not guarantee receiving a console.
To enter the lottery, one needed to have a Japanese Sony account linked to a My Sony ID, and a minimum of 60 hours of gameplay on PS4 or PS5 between September 27, 2024, and September 27, 2026. This condition was intended to weed out scalpers and mass-created accounts.
Winners of the first wave will receive emails on October 26, 2026. Payment for the purchase at the official price must be made by November 2. Unpurchased consoles will be re-raffled.
The Japanese market has long faced scalpers, so the lottery became a way to limit price increases before the holiday season.
