Publisher 2K annually releases new NBA 2K2 basketball simulators. New installments are sold for several years, then removed from sale and their servers are shut down, thus losing their online component.
Recently, a notification appeared in the NBA 2K25 community on Steam. The developers reminded that the game will soon be removed from sale in digital services, and its servers will be shut down at the end of the current year:
NBA 2K25 will not be supported after December 31, 2026. This game will cease to be available for purchase from October 30, 2026. If you already own NBA 2K25, you will still be able to re-download it and play offline modes.
From January 1, 2027, NBA 2K25 fans will no longer be able to play multiplayer matches or access any online modes: “MyCAREER and MyTEAM modes will become unavailable, and virtual currency (VC) earnings will cease.”
Support listed the modes that will be available in NBA 2K25 after the servers are shut down: Play Now; MyNBA/MyLeague/MyGM; 2KU/Learn 2K; MyWNBA and The W.
Earlier this year, NBA 2K27 was released. Like NBA 2K25, the new installment of the franchise is available not only on PC via Steam, but also on consoles.
