After 11 years, fans released a Borderlands Online remaster - the closed MMO-shooter is available for free in 4K 120 FPS
The lost part of the Borderlands franchise is now available to players.
An enthusiast under the nickname EpicNNG announced the release of an unofficial remaster of the Borderlands Online project. Initially, this MMO-shooter was developed by the Chinese studio Shanda Games, but it was not brought to a full release and was closed.
Now Borderlands Online has received a second life thanks to the modding community. EpicNNG published a special video in honor of the remaster's release and addressed the community.
He recalled how in May 2025 he published an announcement online — he offered other enthusiasts to help him restore the Borderlands Online build:
Over a year ago, I took on a mission to make history by finding and reviving a Borderlands game that was thought to be lost forever — an exclusive Chinese MMO that never made it to a full release. Despite all the obstacles, potential legal issues, and constant setbacks… we managed to do it.
This version of Borderlands Online supports 4K resolution, 120 FPS, unlocked FOV (field of view), and English localization is available.

The website for the fan remaster of Borderlands Online is available at the following link. It contains instructions and answers to frequently asked questions. For example, the modders clarified that it is possible to play offline (run locally on a computer).
