US Tightens RTX 5090 Sales: Buyers Forced to Sign Declaration

The American chain Micro Center now requires GeForce RTX 5090 buyers to present a driver's license and sign a declaration that the graphics card will not be resold or exported outside the US.

GeForce RTX 5090 buyers at the American chain Micro Center must now verify their identity and sign a legal declaration prohibiting the export of the graphics card outside the US.

Due to severe shortages and prices reaching up to $5000 in some locations, the store has introduced additional checks. Buyers are required to present a valid driver's license and complete a special form.

The document states that the graphics card is intended solely for personal use or local business operations, without resale or transfer abroad. Providing false information will result in the cancellation of the transaction.

Such measures are related to international trade restrictions that prohibit the supply of the most powerful chips to a number of countries, primarily China. Due to high demand from the local AI industry, the RTX 5090 has become an attractive item for smuggling, so stores are trying to prevent bulk purchases through intermediaries and possible accusations of circumventing the embargo.
