Fans Revived MediEvil on PC and Fundamentally Refused AI

Lead designer of the original MediEvil, Jay Wilson, supported the decision of the creators of the fan-made MediEvil Recomp port not to use generative AI

The fan project MediEvil Recomp ports the PlayStation 1 game to modern PCs, adding widescreen support, improved visuals, and other technical capabilities without using generative AI.

The BlackLabelHQ project allows Sir Dan's adventure to run on modern computers. Improvements include widescreen support, image scaling, increased draw distance, higher frame rates, improved textures, and frame interpolation.

The creators of MediEvil Recomp specifically emphasize that they did not use generative AI. The project page states that the team values human work, so applications created with AI are rejected.

This approach was supported by Jay Wilson, co-creator and lead designer of the original MediEvil. He admitted that he doesn't know the details of the project and believes that generative AI should be kept away from MediEvil. In his opinion, the special charm of games from that era is due to the manual work on many elements and fewer ready-made tools.
