Previously, Otsuka stated that he was not interested in returning to the series without Kojima, but he has now changed his stance. In an interview, the actor admitted that his previous opinion was partly due to pride in working with the renowned developer.
Otsuka reminded of the millions of Metal Gear fans worldwide who have been waiting for a full-fledged sequel for years. In his opinion, while Kojima is busy with his own projects, including OD and Physint, nothing prevents Konami from developing the series independently.
The actor remains connected to Kojima and voiced Die-Hardman in Death Stranding. However, after the developer left Konami in 2015, the company primarily focused on revisiting old games. The last major project was Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, a remake of the classic installment.
Now, Otsuka believes that it is time for Konami to give the series another chance and release a full-fledged sequel – Metal Gear Solid 6. Such a game has not yet been officially announced.
