Director Naoki Hamaguchi told PC Gamer that the decision to expand Zack's role is partly due to the character's immense popularity. The hero, familiar to players from Crisis Core, has become one of the important elements of the Final Fantasy VII universe, so in the final part of the trilogy, they decided to give him more attention.
According to Hamaguchi, Zack's episodes will be significantly larger than those in Rebirth. This will not be an alternative version of the gameplay familiar from Cloud: Zack will receive a unique combat system and his own progression system, resembling a skill tree.
Zack's episodes will be closely linked to the main story and will become an important part of it. Hamaguchi also promises many surprises in them, the details of which are not yet disclosed.
Final Fantasy 7 Revelation will be released on April 8, 2027, on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch 2.
