Castlevania is back for real? No need to wait ten years for a new game
Castlevania: Belmont's Curse could be the beginning of the series' return, and Konami is not going to delay the next game for another ten years.
Producer Tsutomu Taniguchi spoke in an interview about the future of Castlevania ahead of the series' 40th anniversary. The team is currently focused on Belmont’s Curse, although, according to him, it's hard to imagine a situation where the next game would only be released in ten years: in such a case, the efforts to bring the series back would lose their meaning.
According to Taniguchi, Belmont’s Curse partly emerged precisely because of a sense of urgency. The number of people who actually play Castlevania has decreased, but the audience familiar with the series but never having played it has grown. Perhaps the Netflix animated series helped attract new fans.
What the sequel will be like is still unknown: Konami could choose a classic formula, a Metroidvania, a 3D game, or a new approach. The last main installment remains Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, released in 2014.
