Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Received Its First Review. Is the New Adventure Worth Waiting For?
Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse received its first scores from Japanese Famitsu – all four reviewers gave the game 8/10, resulting in a total of 32/40.
The new Castlevania continues the events of Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse and focuses on exploring dark locations, battles, and unusual whip usage. With it, the heroine can latch onto special points, platforms, and even enemies, close distances, attack, and reach hard-to-access places.
Movement in the air is of great importance: levels are filled with traps and mechanisms requiring precise jumps using the whip. After defeating bosses, the player receives Arcana, unlocking new abilities and territories. It is also possible to change weapons and Arcana depending on the situation.
The game will feature maps with their own tasks and puzzles, and defeated bosses will later be represented on Tarot cards and will be able to communicate with the heroine. The difficulty is higher than in some previous installments of the series, especially in boss battles, but you can adjust the damage taken and the number of potions.
Famitsu specifically noted the detailed Paris and castle, as well as the music. At the same time, the visual style and dynamics are closer to modern Western indie games than to classic Castlevania.
