Warhorse Studios head Martin Klima believes that AI should not replace developers. When used correctly, the technology will allow for significantly larger games to be created for the same money.
Klima categorically rejects the idea of mass replacement of employees by generative AI. According to him, the technology will not be a “magic solution” that will allow games to be created without human involvement.
Much more interesting, the head of Warhorse believes, is to use AI as a tool to expand the team's capabilities. Automating individual processes will free up developers' time and resources for additional content: more branching, classes, and quests.
This approach may be especially useful for large role-playing games like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Instead of reducing production costs, AI will allow for an increase in game scale with the same budget.
Hideo Kojima previously expressed a similar position: he also views AI as a tool, but opposes its use to deprive artists of work. As technology develops, the industry will increasingly have to decide where assistance to developers ends and an attempt to replace them begins.
