What will change in Resident Evil development? Capcom responded to criticism regarding AI use
Capcom is integrating generative AI into the RE Engine to accelerate game development. The company assures that neural networks will not independently create game assets.
According to Daniel Vavra, author of Kingdom Come 2, almost all major publishers are already using generative AI to accelerate development, and those who claim otherwise are simply lying.
On October 2, Satoshi Ishida announced that Capcom would integrate AI into the RE Engine. The system was named REX and is intended to speed up the production process.
The innovation drew criticism online. In response to an IGN inquiry, a Capcom representative stated that AI does not interfere with the artistic vision of developers but helps to find errors faster and automate routine tasks.
According to the representative, REX will not independently create game assets, such as 3D character models. The system is designed to improve development efficiency, including bug finding and code correction.
AI is already capable of independently creating games in Unreal Engine, including generating 3D models in Blender. In the coming years, this could seriously change the gaming industry, especially the independent sector.
