Warcraft III: Reforged Update Deleted Saves - Blizzard's Attempt to Fix It Made Things Worse
Developer inconsistency and lack of communication are frustrating players.
This year, Blizzard Entertainment greatly pleased Warcraft III: Reforged players. The developers introduced a major update, as well as a new campaign, Forsaken Kingdom. However, the happiness did not last long: a recent update spoiled the experience for many community members.
In October, update 3.0.1 was released for Warcraft III: Reforged. Players encountered an issue where their old saves were not compatible with the current version of the game. Participants in the testing were warned that saves would become invalid, but regular players did not know about this feature until the very last moment.
When users started complaining on the forums, Blizzard Entertainment decided to roll everything back so that players would have time to complete the campaign acts:
Hello! Today we rolled the game back to version 3.0.0 and plan to re-release update 3.0.1 in the coming weeks. This will give players additional time to complete the acts before saves become unavailable. Update 3.0.1 will remain on the PTR branch for further testing.
However, Blizzard Entertainment's proposed 'solution' only made things worse. Some players had already started the new campaign, and as a result, the update and subsequent rollback broke both their old and new saves.
[Players will have time to complete the acts] but for those who already started the campaign anew after the release of version 3.0.1, it turns out we have now lost both saves. Utter incompetence. If you make a decision, stick to it! This back-and-forth only exacerbates the chaos.
Players are urging Warcraft III: Reforged to reconsider its approach to communication and provide better advance warning that old saves will no longer load after an update.
