On October 7, in Ostrołęka, a man with a knife wounded nine people, and the next day in Leszczydół-Nowiny, a 15-year-old attacked a school cleaner, who later died. In late September, police also detained a 13-year-old suspected of planning a school attack.
Following these events, the government held a security meeting. Tusk stated that young people are influenced by the internet, dangerous challenges, freak fights, and video games.
The influence comes from an extremely complex situation on the internet — I'm talking about a wave of violence, various challenges, gaming, the extraordinary activity of various media, not only on the internet, in promoting explicit violence and freak fights. You know well that the cult of violence has become pervasive in the world and, unfortunately, has reached Poland as well.
Tusk emphasized that such tragedies do not have a single cause: among possible factors, he named psychological problems, personal experiences, and bullying, including online.
The Prime Minister did not directly blame games for specific attacks. Scientific studies also do not confirm that violent video games alone lead to serious acts of violence.
