Emulation no longer needed? Developers found a way to run PS5 games on PC

PS5 games can run on PC without traditional emulation: the AnyPS5 project has translated all 1166 GPU instructions of the console, although a full game launch is still far off.

The AnyPS5 project aims to enable native launch of PlayStation 5 games on Windows and Linux. To do this, it leverages the architectural similarity between the console's processors and modern PCs, and translates graphics instructions into the SPIR-V format, supported by Vulkan.

Developers have completed work on all shader instructions of the Oberon graphics chip on the RDNA 2 architecture. The next stage is support for the console's system libraries.

Currently, 2573 out of 3034 libraries have been translated, which is 84.81%. There are still 461 libraries left to process.

Even after this work is completed, compatibility with specific games will need to be verified. For now, AnyPS5 cannot be considered a ready-to-use method for running PS5 games on a computer.
