Microsoft is preparing a large-scale update to the Xbox app for Windows 11, codenamed Garrison, which will simplify the interface and improve the service's performance.
According to Windows Central, the project is already being tested in its early stages, and Xbox Insider program participants may gain access to it in the coming weeks.
The main change will be a simplified interface: game pages and store offers will be combined into one window. Users will find it easier to understand which games are available for download on PC and which can only be launched via Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Garrison supports mouse, keyboard, and gamepad. The application can also be set as the main screen for Windows 11's game mode. In this case, the interface adapts to controller input, which will be useful on portable devices.
For now, Microsoft is focused on performance and convenience. The early version has few new features, although navigation should become simpler and the application should run faster.
In parallel, the company is testing the Bastion interface, designed to bring Xbox Cloud Gaming closer to the Xbox Series X/S console experience.
