Bethesda can't do it in three years, but a Starfield modder single-handedly created seamless landings in the style of No Man's Sky
It will be possible to enable autopilot or land the ship manually.
Starfield players criticize the Bethesda Game Studios team for many things. One of the key issues has been the numerous loading screens that disrupt immersion in the game world.
Long before the release of the space action-RPG, Hello Games studio in No Man’s Sky demonstrated that seamless planet landing could be implemented in such a project. Since its release, Starfield players have been urging Bethesda Game Studios to implement such a landing/takeoff from a planet, but over the past years, the developers have not done so.
However, enthusiasts are making various attempts. Recently, modder Frederik Wessberg shared his developments and talked about his project:
I've been working on this for about half a year, and finally it's starting to look and feel ready enough to show you! The mod will add seamless landings on planets and moons to Starfield without loading screens.
The modder explained that players will be able to land fully on autopilot, and while the ship flies from orbit to the surface, they can leave the pilot's seat, move freely around the ship, or enjoy the views. It will also be possible to control the ship manually.
During landing, the ship will fly “through real 3D layers of volumetric clouds, controlled by climate data and weather systems.” Thunderstorms and lightning, as well as other effects, will be visible.

Frederik Wessberg plans to publish the seamless planet landing modification in Starfield on Nexus Mods — the project will be available for free.
