Owlcat Postpones Release of Steampunk RPG About Feudal Japan and Magic
Developers decided to refine Shadow of the Road.
Recently, Another Angle Games studio and Owlcat Games publisher announced the postponement of Shadow of the Road. Initially, the game was expected to be released in November of the current year, but now the release has been moved to 2027.
They published an appeal to players in the game's Steam community. The developers intend to use the additional time to refine the game — fix bugs and improve the tactical component, and battle balance:
We know how many of you are looking forward to stepping onto the shores of Nippon (Japan), and we ourselves eagerly await meeting you there. However, during the development process, we realized that we need more time to prepare the game for release. Additional time will allow us to fix remaining issues and bring the project to the proper level [...] In other words, we will have more time to work on the game, and you will get a more polished tactical RPG with an even more engaging world to explore.
They specifically noted the refinement of the progression system — the authors want to make squad development more engaging: “Our goal is to give you more reasons to try different skills and change tactics depending on the challenges.”
You can add Shadow of the Road to your Steam wishlist by following this link. If nothing changes again, the game will be released on March 10, 2027. This turn-based RPG intertwines the atmosphere of feudal Japan with magic and steampunk.
