Court Orders Denuvo to Narrow Requests for voices38's Identity - Lawyers Want Too Much Data

News

Now Denuvo must convince the court that this data is essential, or revise its request.

For a long time, Denuvo was considered a formidable protection that only the hacker Empress could overcome. However, it then started doing something else, and voices38 entered the scene, also practicing 'old-school cracking' rather than using the hypervisor-based DRM bypass method.

This year, Denuvo's lawyers decided to deal with him and began sending requests to various companies. They want to obtain various data to identify voices38 from Valve (Steam), Discord*, and Reddit — device identifiers, payment data, linked accounts, transaction history, IP addresses, and more.

The court began reviewing the request, and Denuvo's representatives encountered difficulties in obtaining this data. Judge Haywood S. Gilliam, Jr. ruled that at this stage, they are seeking too much personal data.

Denuvo's lawyers need to explain why they require such extensive data to achieve 'narrow preliminary goals' — establishing the identity of the defendant (voices38) and serving him with legal documents.

Now Denuvo's lawyers will either have to narrow their data request to identify voices38 or provide the court with a detailed justification of 'why each request is consistent with permissible preliminary discovery objectives'.

The court gave Denuvo's representatives until October 14, 2026, to prepare a new version of the request or a written justification for each requirement.

Star Wars: Galactic Racer was recently released, and those expecting a 'crack' on release day faced a problem — it seems that an enhanced version of Denuvo was implemented in the game.
