Fan-made Diablo remake released with ray tracing, HD textures, and online co-op support

The classic is back in an updated format.

Several years ago, Diablo II: Resurrected was released. Many players enjoyed the updated ARPG, but some fans also wanted to see a remake of the first installment of the franchise. Recently, an enthusiast satisfied this demand. Troygentic presented a special version of DevilutionX (an open-source port of the first Diablo). In his unofficial “Diablo 1 Remake HD Graphics,” the developer added HD textures, as well as lighting using ray tracing.

You can play Diablo 1 Remake HD Graphics alone or in online co-op. In addition, players will be able to import sound packs from their own copy of Diablo II or Diablo II: Resurrected. The archive itself does not contain copyrighted materials, meaning a copy of Diablo will also be required — Troygentic suggests players use the GOG version or the Battle.net version.

Troygentic has published the source code for “damnationx” on GitHub. The project can be run in a browser.

Previously, a full first-person view was made for the first Diablo. This project is also based on DevilutionX.
