Nintendo will not follow PlayStation's example and will retain physical copies

Nintendo will continue to release physical editions alongside digital ones. The company will focus on what format customers prefer.

Nintendo does not plan to abandon physical game editions and will continue to release them alongside digital versions, taking into account customer preferences.

This was stated by Bill van Zyll, Vice President and General Manager of Nintendo of Latin America, in an interview.

Historically, we have always maintained a neutral position, right? We focus on consumer preferences and pay great attention to this. In addition, we have a platform that appeared quite recently. It has been just over a year since the launch of NS2. It supports both digital and physical formats. We have no plans to abandon physical media. We know how much fans love them, so our position has always been to remain neutral.

Two types of physical editions are available on Nintendo Switch 2: full cartridges and key cards, which contain only data for downloading the game. The latter are not very popular among collectors.

Most games published by Nintendo itself are still released on full cartridges.
